Reading and writting skills
How can you integrate Weblogs into your teaching area?
As an elementary school teacher, I can integrate weblogs with different activities and difficulty levels. I plan to teach kindergarten children; therefore I would use weblogs at a very elementary level. As I explore the site myself, I realize that it is easy and fun to use, therefore, young children will be excited and motivated to use it.
I would probably make a class blog myself, but have the children name it. Since most kindergarten classrooms have groups, I would make three additional ones, one for each group. I would instruct children on the basic uses of a computer and the importance of it. I would then give the opportunity to each group of students to post a message intended for the other two groups. The messages should relate to the weekly theme, daily lesson, or words of the day. Groups are then to respond to the message and so on. These would give all children the opportunity to use the computer in an academic matter, by building social skills, computer skills, language skills, and writing skills.
I would also give my students to learn a little more about me. Each group would also be given the opportunity to post a message for me on the class blog. Their question could be related to anything. This activity will help students realize that I am human (since most young students assume the teacher lives at school), and also gives them a chance to have fun with the computer as they build reading and writing skills.
