Reading and writting skills

How can you integrate Weblogs into your teaching area?

As an elementary school teacher, I can integrate weblogs with different activities and difficulty levels. I plan to teach kindergarten children; therefore I would use weblogs at a very elementary level. As I explore the site myself, I realize that it is easy and fun to use, therefore, young children will be excited and motivated to use it.

I would probably make a class blog myself, but have the children name it. Since most kindergarten classrooms have groups, I would make three additional ones, one for each group. I would instruct children on the basic uses of a computer and the importance of it. I would then give the opportunity to each group of students to post a message intended for the other two groups. The messages should relate to the weekly theme, daily lesson, or words of the day. Groups are then to respond to the message and so on. These would give all children the opportunity to use the computer in an academic matter, by building social skills, computer skills, language skills, and writing skills.

I would also give my students to learn a little more about me. Each group would also be given the opportunity to post a message for me on the class blog. Their question could be related to anything. This activity will help students realize that I am human (since most young students assume the teacher lives at school), and also gives them a chance to have fun with the computer as they build reading and writing skills.

The world at your finger tips!

Discuss some ways you can integrate the Internet into your teaching area.

A teachers job is to teach children about the world through literature, the sciences, and art. Many children enter the classroom with a limited experience of the world around them. It then becomes a teachers job to bring the world into the classroom in an interesting and realistic form. This can be very challenging, but through the use of technology it is now easier than ever.

The internet can literally bring the world to your finger tips. With a single click a teacher can take the classroom all around the world. The possibilities become endless. A resourceful teacher can use the internet as a portal into the world, as a fun interactive experience, as a homework assistant, and even as a communication bridge.

Students become interested and motivated to learn through the use of technology, and teachers have more opportunities to teach about anything!
